I was gifted this amp. The PT is toast. Apparently not an uncommon phenomena with this particular species. I'm digging around the internet to try and find a replacement PT and I'm not finding much. Mostly a bunch a diversions into corporate websites that manufacture giant transformers for industry. I'm something of a novice tech.

What's the common experience with this kind of issue? Do you just chuck the amp? Is it possible to order a PT with the correct specs for a reasonable price? Do I just poke around Ebay etc. And see if an actual Crate PT from this model turns up?

The girl at LOUD however tells me that this PT is out of stock and out of production. She told me I could order a custom one from Mercury Magnetics. I've poked around their site a little bit and it's not looking too promising.

Spending $150+ for some custom-made PT for this thing just aint gonna happen. I'll keeping lurking around Ebay and a few other sites and see if one turns up. I might get lucky. I could always use the cabinet to make a custom amp I guess. Loud had a garage sale not terribly long after they bought the Crate/Ampeg brands from SLM. They sold off a ton of parts dirt cheap. MJ15024 for 50 cents for example.

And Transformers for a rew bucks. Whether they actually did it or not, they SAID they woulod keep track of who bought what and could direct us to which shops had purchased certain parts like transformers. You might start checking some of hte larger Crate service centers to see if someon has retained some stock. And there may be alternatives in transformers from more modern models needing the same power.

Loud wouldn;t be aware of such cross references themselves. SO what is the part number on that transformer?
