The book its self is a great book for understanding the concepts of Racial and Ethnic Groups for my Cultural Diversity course.

I should have ordered the hard copy and not the e book within kindle. This was my first e book purchase through the kindle app for pc and I do regret it. The reason I gave it two stars was for the convenience. I was in need of the book right away and could not wait for shipping. On my PC the font is hard to read and it does not give options to help this issue as other books off the kindle allow. Also navigating through the chapters and pages of this e book is not as seamless as other books on the kindle.

Expected more up-to-date stats! Too many statistics remain the same a year later. For example, the same scenario of immigrants are discussed as being 48 or 54 years old in Chapter 4 one year in the 2011 edition and the same age a year later. There are also typos in Chapter 4 in the section entiitled Population Growth, which shows insertion of a clause or two while statistics remain the same or are generalized.

Racial And Ethnic Groups Richard T Schaefer 13th Edition

My university uses the 2011 twelth edition of this book, I purchased the 2012 thirteenth edition thinking there would be more up-to-stats. My fault I am sure. Perhaps, I should have purchased the fourteenth edition.

This textbook on race relations is decent and many of the students said they found it useful, but no one thought it was a great text. I find it extremely boring, expecially when compared to the far more complete text by Farley, 'Majority-Minority Relations.' Schaeffer's approach seems to be to cover lots of topics, but none with any depth. The text is adequate but I am disappointed with its lack of depth. I do think it is a very useful book, nonetheless, for the beginning student and for the professor who perhaps is looking for a text that will be non-threatening to the student. For some reason, the author feels that the truth isn't strong enough to stand on its own and resorts to bending the truth and taking events out of context to make a statement. In the very first chapter, the author suggests that high school students who erected a racist symbol on school grounds should be charged with a 'hate crime' instead of being suspended from school. Testi Giuridici Ebook Library.

The author then suggests withing the same paragraph that three other students who ganged up on and brutally beat another student at the same school were wrongfully charged with 'attempted murder'. Apparently, comparing apples to oranges and leaving out key facts will somehow compel an audience into believing that an injustice has occurred. (Displaying racial symbols, while offensive and hurtful, is not the definition of a 'hate crime'. Also, when any 17 year old uses deadly force in an assault against another, the DA is obligated to bring charges against the aggressor(s). Common sense!) The author also suggests that legislation against illegal immigrants while at the same time harboring refugees from the atrocities occurring in Darfur constitutes some sort of hypocrisy. Again, he is comparing apples to oranges and leaving out key facts.

It's a true shame that an opportunity for social education and personal growth should be so clouded by deceptive tactics. This is a truly painful read. Download Pinball. The book itself is fine.

The condition is good. The issue I have is that I specifically chose a book that said 'Racial and Ethnic Groups Plus NEW MySocLab with eText -- Access Card Package' because I needed the eText and access card. I realize the book is used, but that's why I chose one that said with access card. The book came without the access card, so I still had to pay over $80 to purchase access online. VERY FRUSTRATING!!! Please, do not label something has having the access card if it does not, in fact, have the access card. A disclaimer somewhere obscure that used items 'may not' have access card is not helpful when the description specifically says it has it.
